Reading List (Books & Newspapers)

Strong readers learn faster, remember longer, and write sharper answers. This guide keeps your reading plan **simple, exam‑friendly, and effective** for CBSE and defence entrance prep (RIMC, RMS, Sainik/AISSEE, JNV/APS, NDA, CDS).

⚑ We are a CBSE school with entrance coaching—not a military training centre. Study and fitness routines are structured, balanced, and age‑appropriate.

How to Use

  1. Pick one newspaper (English or Hindi).
  2. Add one monthly + one atlas.
  3. Keep one story or biography at a time.
  4. Follow the Daily 20–30 Minute Plan below.

Daily 20–30 Minute Plan (10–10–10)

  • 10 min Headlines: circle 6–8 key items only.
  • 10 min Deep Read: write a 4‑line summary.
  • 10 min Vocab + Map: 5 new words + 1 map point.

Note format (SNIPP): Summary · Numbers · Institution · Place · Person.

  • Indian Express – Explained section
  • Mint/Business Standard – economy basics

Hindi

  • Yojana / Kurukshetra – 2–3 articles monthly
  • India Year Book – use index selectively

💡 Don’t chase too many sources. Pick **1 newspaper + 1 monthly** and stay consistent.

  • Wall maps for India + World near the desk
  • Map practice: rivers, dams, parks, capitals (5 pins/day)

Grammar, Vocabulary & Writing

  • Wren & Martin – short daily drills
  • Word Power Made Easy – 15 mins, 4–5 days/week
  • Writing file: précis, letters, notices, 1 editorial summary/week

By Class (CBSE Focus)

Classes VI–VIII

  • Stories: Ruskin Bond / R.K. Narayan
  • Biographies: A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (junior)
  • GK: Children’s yearbook + atlas
  • Target: 2 pages + 1 map point daily

Classes IX–X

  • Biographies: *Wings of Fire* (youth), Milkha Singh
  • GK: India states/districts basics
  • Target: 1 article/day + 1 diagram/map

Classes XI–XII

  • Newspaper: Hindu/Express (editorial + Explained)
  • Economy: Mint/BS (budget, RBI basics)
  • Target: 30–45 mins daily + 1 long read on Sunday

  • RIMC: daily editorial summary + biography + atlas
  • RMS/Sainik: story + yearbook + maps
  • JNV/APS: light story + GK booklet
