AISSEE 2027 exam date 31 January 2027 for Sainik School Class 6 and Class 9 entrance, notification released 13 October 2026

Written by the Sainik School faculty at Atulya Defence Academy, Ambala Cantt. Checked against the NTA information bulletin on 17 October 2026.

The Sainik School entrance for the 2027-28 session is now officially on the calendar. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the AISSEE 2027 notification on 13 October 2026, and the written test for both Class 6 and Class 9 is fixed for Sunday, 31 January 2027. That leaves roughly fifteen weeks between the notice and the paper. For a family that has been "planning to start soon", that is not much time.

Every year our office in Ambala Cantt gets the same calls in October and November. Has the form come? What is the last date? Which documents are needed? Is my son too old for Class 6? This guide answers those questions in the order a parent actually faces them, from the notification to the day your child reports to a Sainik School.

Short answer: The AISSEE 2027 exam date is 31 January 2027, and the paper will be held in pen-and-paper (OMR) mode. The notification came out on 13 October 2026. Apply only on exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE, and complete the form well before the closing date shown there, because the window is usually about three weeks long.

When was the AISSEE 2027 notification released?

NTA published the AISSEE 2027 notification and the information bulletin on 13 October 2026. The bulletin is the document that matters. It lists the participating schools, the seats in each, the reservation rules, the exam cities and the fee. Download the PDF from the official portal and keep it on your phone. When a coaching centre, a WhatsApp group or a relative tells you something different, the bulletin wins.

Many parents search "sainik school form 2027 kab aayega" well into November because they missed the news. The form is already live. If you are reading this before the closing date, open the portal today rather than this weekend.

Only the notice and the AISSEE 2027 exam date are fixed so far. "Expected" dates follow the pattern of the last two cycles. Last year the form ran from 10 to 30 October 2025, corrections were open from 2 to 4 November, and results came within about six weeks of the paper. NTA can shift any stage, so check the portal.

What is the last date to apply for AISSEE 2027?

The closing date is printed in the information bulletin and on the AISSEE page of the NTA site. Read it there, not from a screenshot. Two deadlines sit close together: the last date to submit the form, and the last date for the fee to go through. A form with an unpaid or failed payment is not counted, so do not leave the payment for the final evening when bank servers are slow.

If you are close to the Sainik School admission 2027 last date and still undecided, ask one question: is my child within the age band? If yes, apply. The fee is small compared to losing a full year.

Application fee (based on the previous bulletin)

  • General, OBC (non-creamy layer), defence wards and ex-servicemen: ₹850
  • SC and ST: ₹700

The fee is non-refundable. Confirm the 2027 amount in the current bulletin before paying.

How to fill the AISSEE 2027 application form without mistakes

Most errors we see at our admission desk are small ones that cause big trouble later: a date of birth that does not match the birth certificate, a blurred signature, or the wrong school chosen as first preference. Here is the order that works:

  1. Register on exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE with a mobile number and email the parent checks daily. All NTA messages, including the admit card notice, go there.
  2. Fill personal details exactly as written on the birth certificate. Spelling of the child's name and father's name must match.
  3. Choose the class (6 or 9), the medium of the paper, and the exam city. Pick the city nearest to you; families in Ambala usually choose Ambala or Chandigarh if listed.
  4. Select the Sainik School preference. Your home-state school carries the bigger quota, so think before ranking an out-of-state school first.
  5. Upload documents: recent photograph, the candidate's signature, the parent's left-hand thumb impression, and category, domicile or service certificates where they apply.
  6. Pay the fee online and download the confirmation page. Save it as a PDF and print one copy.

Who can apply: age limits and eligibility for 2027

Class 6

Born between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2017 (age 10 to 12 on 31 March 2027). Should be studying in Class 5 in a recognised school. Boys and girls can apply.

Class 9

Born between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2014 (age 13 to 15 on 31 March 2027). Must have passed Class 8 from a recognised school when admission happens.

Are girls eligible for Sainik School admission?

Yes. Since 2021-22, girls are admitted to Class 6 in every Sainik School. The previous bulletin reserved 10 percent of Class 6 seats, or at least 10 seats, for girls in each school. Girls may also apply for Class 9 where vacancies exist. Families with daughters should read the seat matrix in the bulletin carefully, because the number of girls' seats varies from school to school.

Which subjects come in the Sainik School Class 6 exam?

The paper is objective, answered on an OMR sheet, with no negative marking. Class 6 can be written in English, Hindi or one of the listed regional languages. Class 9 is in English only.

Class 6 sectionQuestionsMarks eachTotal
Mathematics503150
Intelligence25250
Language25250
General Knowledge25250
Total (150 minutes)125–300

Class 9 has 150 questions for 400 marks in 180 minutes: Mathematics carries 200 marks (50 questions of 4 marks), and Intelligence, English, General Science and Social Science carry 50 marks each.

Look at where the marks sit. Maths alone is half the Class 6 paper. A child who is weak in fractions, LCM and HCF, or unitary method word problems cannot make that up with GK. In our classrooms we spend about half of each week on maths for exactly this reason, and we start with speed, because 50 maths questions in a shared 150-minute window is tight for a ten-year-old.

How is the Sainik School merit list prepared?

Clearing the paper and getting a seat are two different things. First, a child must reach the qualifying marks: at least 25 percent in each subject and 40 percent overall. In the older 33 Sainik Schools, SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying score; in the New Sainik Schools the same cut-off applies to everyone.

Qualified candidates are then ranked school by school and category by category. Seats are split this way:

  • Home state quota: 67 percent of seats go to children domiciled in the state or UT where the school stands.
  • Other state quota: the remaining 33 percent go to children from other states and UTs.
  • Category reservation within each: SC 15 percent, ST 7.5 percent and OBC (non-creamy layer) 27 percent.
  • Defence wards quota: 25 percent of seats (including ex-servicemen's children) after the above.

After the result, e-counselling allots seats by merit and choice. A medical examination at the school and a document check follow. Only then is the seat final. Cut off marks change every year with the number of seats and applicants, so be careful with anyone who quotes a single "safe score".

What this means for a Haryana family

For a child domiciled in Haryana, the home-state quota points to Sainik School Kunjpura (Karnal) and Sainik School Rewari. New Sainik Schools in Haryana, such as those in Kurukshetra, Rohtak and Fatehabad, are also in the list. Families from Punjab, Himachal and other states should look at their own state's schools first, where the larger share of seats sits.

How many Sainik Schools are there in India?

There are 33 Sainik Schools run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. On top of these, the government has approved a growing list of New Sainik Schools under a partnership model with private and state schools. Not every one of them admits through the same quota system, and the list grows each year, so the 2027 bulletin's school-wise seat matrix is the only reliable count for this cycle.

When will the AISSEE 2027 admit card come?

NTA usually releases a city intimation slip first and then the admit card about two to three weeks before the exam. Working back from the AISSEE 2027 exam date of 31 January, expect the card in the second or third week of January 2027. Download it using the application number and date of birth, check the photo, the centre address and the reporting time, and print two copies. Reach the centre at least an hour early. Children who arrive flustered lose more marks than children who arrive under-prepared.

Is coaching necessary for Sainik School?

Not always. A sharp child with a parent who can sit with them every evening can clear the paper. What coaching adds is structure that is hard to build at home: timed OMR practice, a full mock every week, and someone checking why a child gets the same type of question wrong again and again. If you go the self-study route, do three things without fail:

  • Solve at least five previous papers under the real time limit.
  • Practise filling OMR bubbles; children lose time here more than parents think.
  • Keep a mistake notebook and revise it every Sunday.

At Atulya, Class 5 and Class 8 students prepare alongside regular CBSE schooling on a residential campus, which means the entrance practice does not eat into school studies. Details are on our Sainik School entrance programme page.

Sainik School ki taiyari kab se shuru karein? (When should preparation start?)

Ideally in Class 4, at a gentle pace, with real focus through Class 5. For Class 9, start in Class 7. Starting late is not the end, though. With the AISSEE 2027 exam date about fifteen weeks away, here is a realistic plan for families beginning now:

Weeks 1–5

Fill the form first. Then cover Class 5 maths fully: number system, fractions, decimals, LCM/HCF, percentage and simple word problems.

Weeks 6–10

Add intelligence (series, coding, analogy, mirror images) and language daily. Read a newspaper page aloud for GK and vocabulary.

Weeks 11–14

One full mock every week in 150 minutes on an OMR sheet. Spend the next day only on the mistakes.

Week 15

Light revision, early sleep, admit card printed, route to the centre checked.

Mistakes that cost families a seat every year

  • Waiting for the "last date" and then facing a payment failure on the final night.
  • Applying with a date of birth outside the band and finding out at document verification.
  • Choosing an out-of-state school first without understanding the 33 percent other-state share.
  • Ignoring the medical test. Eyesight and flat-foot issues found late can end an admission after a good score.
  • Treating GK as the scoring section and neglecting maths.
