AISSEE application form 2027 step-by-step guide with documents, photo size, fee and correction window for Sainik School admission

Written by the admissions desk at Atulya Defence Academy, Ambala Cantt. We help parents fill Sainik School forms every October; this guide follows the NTA portal and information bulletin as of 17 October 2026.

The online form for the Sainik School entrance takes about forty minutes if every document is ready, and two or three evenings if it is not. Most of the delays we see at our desk are not technical. A parent sits down to fill the form, reaches the upload page, and discovers the domicile certificate is in the name of the wrong district, or the scanned photo is 400 KB when the portal accepts 200. This guide puts the preparation first and the clicking second.

If you only need the dates, they are in our 2027 entrance timeline. Here we go screen by screen through the AISSEE application form 2027, with the document list, file sizes, the fee and the correction rules.

Before you start: one email and one mobile number used only for this child; a birth certificate; a domicile certificate of the state you are claiming; a category or service certificate if you are claiming a reserved seat; and three scanned images in JPG (photo, signature, thumb impression) within the size limits below.

Step 0: get the documents ready

DocumentWho needs itWatch out for
Birth certificateEvery candidateDate must match the school record exactly
Domicile certificateAnyone claiming the home-state quotaIssued by the state where the school is; in the parent's or child's name as the state allows
SC / ST certificateReserved category candidatesFrom the competent authority, in the prescribed format
OBC (non-creamy layer) certificateOBC candidatesMust be on the central list and recent enough to be valid at counselling
Service certificateWards of serving or retired defence personnelSigned by the unit or record office in the bulletin's format
Bonafide / study certificateKept ready for counsellingShows current class (5 or 8) and session

AISSEE documents required at the upload stage

Not all of these are uploaded at the time of the form; some are checked only at counselling and admission. But the category and domicile you choose in the form must be backed by a certificate later. If you tick "home state" without a valid domicile certificate, the child will be treated as other-state at counselling or lose the seat. Decide the category on the basis of papers you actually have.

What photo size is required for the AISSEE form?

AISSEE application form 2027 upload sizes: photograph 10 KB to 200 KB JPG, signature 10 KB to 50 KB, left thumb impression 10 KB to 50 KB, with document checklist for Sainik School admission
Three images, all in JPG, each within its size range.
  • Photograph: JPG, 10 KB to 200 KB. Recent, colour, plain light background, face clearly visible, no cap or dark glasses.
  • Candidate's signature: JPG, 10 KB to 50 KB. The child signs on white paper with a black pen.
  • Left-hand thumb impression: JPG, 10 KB to 50 KB, in blue or black ink on white paper. If the left thumb is not available, the right thumb is allowed.

Phone photos are usually 2 to 4 MB, far above the limit. Crop to the face and shoulders and reduce the size with any free image tool, or ask a photo shop for a "200 KB JPG". Open the final file on the phone before uploading to check it is not blurred or sideways.

Download and save the PDF. Print one copy. Keep the application number and password in two places.

Choosing the school preference

This is the one screen worth discussing as a family before you open the portal. The home-state quota in Sainik Schools is 67 percent of seats, so for a child from Haryana the larger share of seats sits in Kunjpura and Rewari. Putting an out-of-state school first means competing for its smaller other-state share. New Sainik Schools are listed too; they reserve only part of their seats for candidates from outside, and their fees and facilities vary. If you are unsure about a new school, call it and ask about hostel care and fees before listing it.

Sainik school form kaise bhare? (Hindi summary)

Pehle saare documents aur teen photo (photo, signature, angootha) JPG me sahi size me taiyar karein. Phir NTA ki website par registration karein, details birth certificate ke hisaab se bharein, school aur shehar chunein, photo upload karein, fees bharein aur confirmation page download karke print rakhein.

AISSEE application fee

The fee for the previous cycle was ₹850 for General, OBC (non-creamy layer), defence wards and ex-servicemen, and ₹700 for SC and ST candidates. Check the 2027 bulletin before paying in case NTA revises it. Payment is by debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Bank charges, if any, are extra. The amount is not refunded, even if the child does not appear.

Can the AISSEE form be corrected after submission?

Yes, but only during the correction window that NTA opens for a few days after the last date. Last year it ran from 2 to 4 November 2025. In that window, most details can be edited and the form re-submitted; any extra fee due because of a change (for example, a category change) has to be paid then. Some fields, such as the registered mobile number and email, are usually locked. After the window closes, NTA does not accept corrections by email or post.

Our advice: treat the AISSEE form correction window as a safety net, not a plan. Read the preview page line by line before you pay, ideally with a second person reading the birth certificate aloud.

Extra points for defence families

A quarter of the seats are kept for wards of serving and retired defence personnel, and these seats are often where a child's chances are best. But the claim has to be backed by a service certificate in the exact format the bulletin prints. A letter on unit letterhead that does not follow that format is a common cause of trouble at counselling. Ask the unit or the record office for the format from the bulletin, not a general certificate. If the parent has retired, keep the discharge book and pension papers ready as well. Fill the defence-ward option in the AISSEE application form 2027 only if this paperwork is in hand or clearly on its way.

If the payment fails

Payment gateways slow down in the last two days of any NTA form. If money leaves your account but the portal still shows "fee not paid", do not pay again straight away. Wait a few hours; most such payments update on their own. If the status has not changed by the next day, log in, check the payment history on the portal, and raise the issue with NTA's helpdesk with the bank reference number. This is one more reason to submit the AISSEE application form 2027 in the first week of the window rather than the last evening.

Five mistakes that cause trouble later

  • Entering the date of birth in month-day order by mistake.
  • Using a cyber café's email address, then losing access to it before the admit card arrives.
  • Claiming home state without a domicile certificate of that state.
  • Uploading the parent's signature in the candidate's signature box.
  • Paying twice because the first payment "looked stuck". Wait, check the bank statement, and contact NTA if the status does not update.

After the form: what comes next

What is the last date to apply for AISSEE 2027?

It is printed in the information bulletin and on the entrance page of the NTA portal. The window opened on 13 October 2026 and, going by recent years, lasts about three weeks. Submitting in the first week leaves time for the payment to clear and for any problems with documents.

What is the AISSEE 2027 exam date?

Sunday, 31 January 2027. The admit card is expected in January.

Which subjects come in the Sainik School Class 6 exam?

Mathematics (150 marks), Intelligence, Language and General Knowledge (50 marks each), for 300 marks. Our Class 6 syllabus guide lists the topics.

How is the Sainik School merit list prepared?

Candidates with at least 25 percent in each subject and 40 percent overall are ranked school by school, separately for home-state and other-state seats, each category and the defence quota. Seats are then allotted through e-counselling, followed by a medical examination and document verification, which is where the certificates listed above are checked.

What is the home-state quota in Sainik Schools?

67 percent of the seats in the older Sainik Schools are for children domiciled in the state where the school stands. The remaining 33 percent are for other states.

Which is better: old or new Sainik School?

Older schools have long records and uniform fee structures under the Sainik Schools Society. New Sainik Schools are partner schools whose quality varies; some are excellent, some are still building up. Visit or speak to current parents before ranking a new school high.

How many marks are safe for AISSEE Class 6?

No score is officially safe, because the cut off changes with each school's seats and applicants. In our batches, children who score above 75 percent consistently in full mocks are usually well placed for home-state general seats.

Is coaching necessary for Sainik School?

Not for the application, and not always for the exam. What matters is regular timed practice: previous year papers, a mock test every week on an OMR sheet, and a careful look at mistakes. Residential coaching suits families who cannot supervise this daily; at Atulya, Class 5 and Class 8 students prepare alongside CBSE studies. See the Sainik School entrance programme.
